Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow (questions 1-5) The loss of environmental purity is the price that we pay for many of the benefits of modern technology. We now have cars and buses on our roads and highways, but we risk suffering from smoke and dust-induced diseases. We have to build factories and expand our cities, but in the process our forest lands are shrinking, which is reducing our wildlife. Many countries use nuclear power, but there is always the risk of radiation. By increasing agricultural production with fertilizers, we pollute our water bodies. The highly developed nations of the world are not only the immediate beneficiaries of the good that vinology brings; they are also the first victims of environmental diseases that technology breeds. In the past, the environmental effects which accompanied technological progress were limited to small areas, but in our time, the new hazards are really widespread. Today's air pollutions, for example, cover vast areas of the world and can cause health problems for millions.
